Monthly Success Report February 2023 – Gautier High School

Student Success Story (SSS)

February has been FANTASTIC in Room 327!   GP informed me that he would be attending the Engineering Insight Day (EID) at Mississippi State this month.   Not only was I excited that he would be able to tour the campus and get first-hand information, I knew that he needed to see as much as possible while in Starkville.  Career Coaches traveled to MSU a few months back and we met several people that invited us to contact them should we have students that would like to tour their area of engineering.   With that, I contacted the Director of the Advanced Composites Institute (ACI), Dr. Christopher Bounds.  Dr. Bounds was again, very inviting, and graciously offered to meet with GP first thing the following morning.

Because the EID wasn’t set to start until 1:30p, GP and his parents met with Dr. Bounds at 8 am to tour ACI. There, GP spent over two hours privately touring the facility, meeting some of the current students, and learning about composites – an area that he didn’t even know existed at Mississippi State.  From there, GP and his parents were taken over to another area of engineering, the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems.   Other than what I shared after the career coach visits back in November, this area was foreign to him as well.   Again, GP was given a private tour of the facility.  During his visit, GP was also introduced to advisors, instructors, and most impressively, the Dean of Engineering.    GP was given direct contact information for each and has established many relationships that will help him succeed as he enrolls as a student at Mississippi State, Bagley School of Engineering, in the fall.

OUR MOTTO: Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed

GET ENROLLED

Students are submitting their college admissions letters by the dozens!!  The amount of #collegeboundgators that I have been in contact with this month has been outstanding.

Many students have applied and been accepted to many colleges.  Their final decisions will be made once FAFSA amounts start coming in.

GET ENLISTED

AOG signed on with the US Navy last month but has recently been accepted in the NUKE (Nuclear Propulsions) Program.   She is also working on her application for the naval academy.

GET EMPLOYED

Two of the students that were hired by Ingalls in December have reached out to share their progression in the shipyard.  They are enjoying the journey and wanted to express their appreciation throughout the process.  Additionally, I have helped students get jobs at local businesses.
